Not all eucalyptus smells medicinal. Eucalyptus citriodora is distilled from the leaves of a tall tree native to Australia, and its bright, citrusy scent — with just a soft woody base underneath — comes from citronellal, the same compound that gives citronella its fresh, lemony snap. Ours is grown and distilled on the farm: nothing added, nothing hidden.

It's the fresh-air oil. Reach for it to bring a clean lift to outdoor evenings, freshen a stuffy room, or add a bright, lemony note to natural cleaning sprays. It's lively and can be sensitising, so dilute it well for the skin and patch test first.

Good to know: this is the eucalyptus for warm weather and open windows — diffuse it on the patio at dusk, or pop a few drops in a little soap and water for a fresh-smelling wipe-down of outdoor tables and surfaces.
